Gender Equality and Prayer in Jewish Law is Now Available in Hebrew

Tuesday, September 5, 2023

Gender Equality and Prayer in Jewish Law, the 2017 book by Rabbi Ethan Tucker and Rabbi Micha’el Rosenberg, has been translated into Hebrew and published by Yediot Aharonot Press.

This book is the first comprehensive, book-length halakhic inquiry into egalitarian prayer to be published in Hebrew. It not only expands the discourse on gender in the Israeli Jewish community, but it provides a firm, halakhic foundation for promoting Hadar’s vision and values in the Hebrew-speaking world.

For the 50+ independent minyanim and prayer communities that are directly served by Hadar in Israel, this book offers the halakhic language and leadership that these groups need in order to thrive.

“This book gives language to people’s values and dreams,” said Rabbi Avital Hochstein, President of Hadar in Israel. “Our hope is that it offers practical support for egalitarian tefillah and demonstrates how halakhah can have a positive impact on public life in Israel.”

The Hebrew translation of Gender Equality and Prayer in Jewish Law is a major milestone for Hadar in Israel, tying together both aspects of our work - offering deep, substantive Torah learning without compromising on the values of kindness, compassion, and an embrace of all of klal yisrael. Through our beit midrash in Jerusalem and ongoing support for independent prayer communities, Hadar is working to create a viable pathway for committed, egalitarian Jewish life in Israel.

Rabbi Ethan Tucker will be speaking at Hadar’s book launch event on Wednesday, September 20 at 8:00 PM at Hadar in Israel, 63 Emek Refaim, Jerusalem. For more information (in Hebrew), visit Hadar in Israel’s website.

The book is now available to order directly from Hadar in Israel.
