Event Description

"Approaching the Divine: Rabbi Elie Kaunfer and Sarah Hurwitz in Conversation about God, Prayer, and Spirituality"

Join us for an evening of thoughtful discussion and reflection featuring Sarah Hurwitz, former head speechwriter for Michelle Obama and author of Here All Along, in dialogue with Rabbi Elie Kaunfer about the Jewish approach — and their own personal approaches — to the Divine. What do we mean when we say the word "God"? What does Jewish spirituality look like? How can we pray if we don't buy the language about God in our prayer books? And is Michelle Obama really as fabulous as she seems on TV?
Book signing to follow after the lecture, from 8:30-9:00 pm. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Sarah Hurwitz was a senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama in 2009 and 2010, and head speechwriter for First Lady Michelle Obama from 2010 to 2017. She is also the author of 'Here All Along: A Reintroduction to Judaism.'
Dr. Scharfman z"l was committed to learning and Torah and we are honored to be able to hold this lecture in his memory. Thank you to the Scharfman Family for their support in making this lecture possible.
