* Eager to take a leap forward in your Talmud skills?
* Looking to connect with peers from around the country?
* Excited to think about how Torah applies to our contemporary world?

Apply to Hadar’s Summer Talmud Course for high school students!

This course is a unique opportunity for a select group of highly motivated, committed, and curious high school students from across the country to experience a taste of the excitement and rigor of yeshiva life from their own homes. Take a leap forward in your learning and connect with a dynamic group of peers.

The course offers:

  • A three-morning-a-week course in gemara, focusing on boosting Talmud text skills and advancing students’ ability to engage independently with the Talmud through havruta study with a fellow participant and guidance from the instructor.
  • An opportunity to connect with other high school students eager to dive into Jewish text and ideas.
  • Afternoon sessions with a rotation of Hadar rabbis and faculty members, such as Ethan Tucker, Aviva Richman, Shai Held, and Elie Kaunfer, around Torah and its contemporary applications to morality, justice, gender, politics and Jewish peoplehood.

Is it for me?

This course is designed for students who have completed at least one year of high school (including graduating seniors) and who have experience studying Hebrew text in the original, are excited about pushing their abilities, and are passionate about Jewish text. If that describes you, we welcome you to apply!

When Is it?

The course runs Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for the five weeks from July 6th through August 6th. The three-day-a-week format is intended to leave open the possibility of pursuing other passions and interests while fully participating in what this course has to offer.

The course will not meet on Tisha B’Av (July 30th), but participants are encouraged to join the Hadar community for programming on that day.

What does a typical day in the program look like?

You will begin at 9:30 AM with a short check-in with your Talmud teacher followed by a session of havruta, geared to carefully working through that day’s section of Talmud. During this time, your teacher will be available for questions and guidance. Gemara shiur will take place from 11:45 AM - 1 PM.

On Tuesday afternoons, after a break for lunch, there will be additional sessions and opportunities for conversation with Hadar faculty members and small-group learning / discussion with your peers.

How much does it cost?

The fee for the course is on a sliding scale from $250-$500. Please pay what you feel you are able. Please do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected] if finances are an obstacle to participation.
