Overview

Sefer Devarim (the book of Deuteronomy) works to shape both the people's hearts and their deeds so that we can embody generosity, kindness, justice, and mutual solidarity.  In this course, we'll explore some key passages in Devarim, including its vision of shemitah as resistance to entrenched poverty, its dramatic demotion of the king and its attendant egalitarianism, and its warning that the land, intended to be a blessing, can also become a dangerous snare.
