Hadar Welcomes Deborah Sacks Mintz as Director of Tefillah and Music

Hadar

The Hadar Institute is thrilled to welcome Deborah Sacks Mintz as Director of Tefillah and Music and the newest member of Hadar’s faculty. She takes on this role after serving as an artist, consultant, and teacher for Hadar’s Rising Song Institute since its inception.

As Director of Tefillah and Music, Deborah will work to foster vibrant and robust singing and tefillah communities. Deborah will integrate tefillah education, leadership training, and expanded musical opportunities into Hadar’s public programming, fellowships, content production, and yeshiva studies.

She will also partner artistically with Hadar’s Rising Song Institute in the continued development and cultivation of new Jewish music.

Deborah Sacks Mintz is an educator, practitioner, and facilitator of Jewish communal music, supporting communities and individuals seeking to deepen and elevate their practice of songful tefillah. A composer and musician, Deborah has partnered creatively with a diverse array of voices in the Jewish soundscape; she has collaborated on nearly two dozen albums, including releasing her own record of original spiritual music, The Narrow and the Expanse, on Hadar's Rising Song Records in 2020.

With degrees in music performance and religious anthropology from the University of Michigan, Deborah anticipates receiving rabbinic ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary in May 2022, where she was a recipient of the Wexner Graduate Fellowship, the Center for Rabbinic Innovation's Fellowship for Rabbinic Entrepreneurs, and Solomon and Rose S. Lasdon Prize for Artistic Scholarship. For the past decade, Deborah has served in a variety of Jewish communal service capacities, including as the education director of Shir Chadash Congregation in New Orleans, spiritual care chaplain with DOROT, rabbinic fellow at B'nai Jeshurun NYC, and as an artist, teacher, and consultant with Hadar's Rising Song Institute. Learn more about Deborah's work at www.deborahsacksmintz.com.

Deborah will start this new position in July. We look forward to sharing more information about opportunities to learn and sing with her!
