A new Pharaoh persecutes the Israelites, who have become populous. The midwives refuse to murder the Israelite boys, so Pharaoh orders them thrown in the Nile. Moses is saved by his mother and found by the Pharaoh's daughter. Moses flees after killing a slavemaster in anger, coming to Midian and marrying Zipporah. He is chosen by God at the Burning Bush.
