On the Democratic Nature of the Relationship with God. Is the relationship with God open to all who seek it? And what is the model of human communication with God? Our parashah suggests an answer to these questions which generates an unexpected role reversal between Moses and the Israelites, on the one hand, and Balaam and the Moabites on the other.
