Jacob sets out on a journey to his uncle Laban’s house in Haran. Ostensibly, his trip is a flight to safety and finding a wife. It is actually a journey of growth from Jacob into Israel. His wandering is the first stage of his people’s path from local family or tribe to a pace setter on the world’s road to redemption.
