Whom To Invite to the Seder
There is no moment that is more intensely about the "we" of being Jewish than the Seder. Jews all over the world narrate our story in the first person on Passover, literally reconstructing our identity and purpose each and every year. And precisely for that reason, the Seder is an evening where so many Jews have the instinct to share this story with others and to bring that first person narrative to a larger community of enthusiasm and support. Which is it? Can it be both? We will explore this question by examining sources about non-Jewish attendance at a Seder and how to think about the competing values behind the details. Come join us as you prepare your own Seder table and the guests who will sit around it. The 2019 Annual Jerome L. Stern Pre-Pesah Lecture.
